HIV is a virus that attacks the immune system and can result in the disease Aids. HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) can be treated with medicine today but it cannot be cured. The medicines used are very expensive and they can have serious and often unpleasant side effects. In some countries, it might be hard to get these medicines.
Without treatment, HIV continues to be life-threatening.
